Having now ticked Nightjar off the still to be seen list.
Can anyone offer advice on connecting with Hawfinch?

Jamie

Hi,

until recently the best place to see them in our area was around the start of Hutton Village but even then it could take a few visits to see one. This year I think they have been even harder so see there (unless anyone knows differently) so you may need to travel outside the county to see them but I am not aware of any site details but hopefully someone else can help as I think there are some in County Durham still

Regards
Jamie

I think Sunderland Bridge has had numbers of Hawfinch in the past. Sunderland Bridge is about 3 miles south of Durham City, and is a good place for Lesser Spotted Woodpecker and Little Owl, so if you don't see your Hawfinch, there are other good birds there. :)
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice guys.
Sunderland Bridge sounds like the place for me as Lesser Spotted Woodpecker is one of the other 2 'glaring' gaps on my list.
I guess Black Guillemot will need a trip over to Cumbria!

Havent covered Castle Eden dene much since I moved to Hartlepool 8 years ago, I used to get Hawfinch around jacobs ladder in the dene. I spent a good 25 years birding the dene as I lived just on the outskirts in Peterlee. You might want to give that a go.
