I wondered if anyone has insured their camera equipment and, if so, which firm do they find offers the best cover and value? I own a 7D and a 400mm Canon prime lens and am considering buying insurance for them.

Couldn't comment on value but I think all home contents policies can be extend to include named items as 'all risk' equipment.  That's what I've done anyway.

Me also.
I've just insured my camera equipment, as an inclusion to my house and contents insurance for damage and theft.
It's a lot cheaper than insuring from a separate company that specializes in insurance for camera equipment.

I did wonder if adding it to your house contents would be cheaper rather than using a specialised firm. I will check to see if the level of cover is as good as I noticed one specialist firm covers everything from spillages to accidental damage and theft (including from a vehicle), though its £10 a month premium is a little steep. Cheers for your comments.

£10 a month is very steep!!

Added to my contents, I have cameras, lens, binoculars, three guitars.... total values c10k.  These are insured 'all risk', inside or outside the house and home or abroad.  The premium is still less than you've been quoted.

Thanks for that Stew. Your example illustrates just what a rip off so called 'specialist camera insurers' can be.
