Members are requested to submit records of birds using Zinc Works field which lies immediately to the east of the power station.
In Hartlepool's current Core Strategy, it is feasible that some, or all, of this land could be used for the future construction of the replacement nuclear power station. So knowing its degree of importance to bird species, would determine both the extent and nature of mitigation is required should the habitat be lost. The club has already objected to its inclusion in the Core Strategy and has provided bird data to justify our stance. I do not want to get too precise as to which species are of key importance in this recording exercise, so basically the data required concerns all birds ( numbers and species) using the site for feeding, breeding, or loafing. The only species to be recorded in flight over the site are birds of prey or hirundines, for all others, feet need to be on the ground. As well as the date of the observation, the time of day should be noted as the state of the tide can be deduced by the person receiving the record.
Records should be sent to the Ecologist for H B C, Ian Bond email    ian.bond@hartlepool.gov.uk
As chairman I am always banging on to members about making your birding count - well here is an opportunity. If some would like to make this their local patch and record it on some regular basis , then that would be even better still.
Thanking you in anticipation.
