Colour ringed Black-headed Gull - red - 3.7 - was back at Seaton Carew today in the car park behind The Almighty Cod. Found and photos by Dave Harrison.

Ringed - Ringed Amsterdam 01/12/2009

It's been a regular here the last few winters.

Curlews Seaton Common. Ten colour ringed birds seen this morning. The oldest being ringed in 1991.

OY NY ringed on 7th September 1991 as a juvenile bird (BTO ring no. FC48911).

The bird remained using Seal Sands & Seaton Common throughout the winter and when over-summering and moulting during 1992 as a first summer.

Sightings would suggest it emigrated in it's second summer sometime after 22nd March 1993, returning by 5th July.  Thereafter it was generally recorded on Seal Sands during the late summer/autumn (July - August) and then again late winter (January – March, once in April; 11th in 1995).

I saw the bird again on Seaton Common on 22nd March 2008 and on 27/02/2012 then each autumn and winter since.

Yesterday Dave Harrison came across a colour ringed Cormorant at Ward Jackson Park and took a photo. Same bird as he found there last December.

QuoteColour ringed Cormorant at Ward Jackson Park on 31st December 2012 and still present on 1st January 2013. Orange Darvic with black letters S|H. Seen by Dave Harrison.

S|H (metal ring 5238308) was ringed as a chick at Abberton reservoir on the 30th May 2005

Hi this would also appear to be a 'Continental' Cormorant of the form 'sinensis'.

An under-recorded form in Cleveland which doesn't make it into the report every year though doubtless occurs in numbers.  Formerly a Continental race of our familiar Cormorant it now breeds regularly in Britain (including Abberton Reservoir) where it forms mixed colonies with nominate 'carbo'.

See: http://www.britishbirds.co.uk/search?model=pdf&id=9474

Also see the attached image stolen off the net for the clinching ID feature.

One to look out for....

Cheers

Possibly the same Little Egret as above and by Ian Foster via Twitter.

It was seen today close to the Wildlife Watchpoint.

Edit: Looking at some other Photos it looks like it might be Left - Red F F and Right - Yellow 9 9 making it different from the above and one seen on twitter.

Thanks.

Damian

Yep! It was ringed on Seal Sands on 21/07/2012. It's over wintered on Seaton Common the last three years. I first saw it this Autumn on 12/11/2014.

Any with Green over Black on right leg were ringed Summer 2012.
