Colour ringed birds

Around 30 roosting on the beach on a cold and windy evening. Most of them were ringed. Only four weren't. Some with just metal rings or plain blue showing they were likely ringed at Crimdon.

Local birds blue BZ, DI and DW were present along with three 'foreign' birds. Green IN6 from Kilcoole, Ireland.

Yellow PEH and PEJ from Gronant in North Wales ringed there in 2019. Both were at Seaton Carew in 2019 as well.

Found this evening by Ian Foster on the roadside pool at RSPB Saltholme.

Martyn Sidwell spotted the red colour ring with white lettering. Possibly NDX or HDX. Probably from Sweden.

Flew off at 18.40 but returned 21.58.

Hopefully it will stick around long enough to confirm the ring details.

From photos as the Caspian Tern flew off over the road I managed one photo where the lettering could just about be read. I thought it was HDX. This was sent off to the Swedish Ringing scheme. there reply suggested the bird must be HOK, presumably the only viable match.

Seven arrived on 15th June and have reamined on Back Saltholme ever since. An adult, sub-adult and five juveniles.

Present on the beach this evening.

Ringed 10/07/2001 at Crimdon. Colour ring added 13/06/2017 at Crimdon.

At nearly 19 yrs it's the oldest one I've seen around.

BTO record from ringing is 25 yrs. Typical lifespan is 12 yrs.

Colour ringed Redshank LNf WR was on Tidal Pool last night.

Ringed as an adult on 25/10/2018 at Welwick Saltmarsh on the north bank of the Humber Estuary (53.6494, -0.0169). There have been three previous re-sightings, all at RSPB Leighton Moss in Lancashire, on 5 April 2019, 27 April 2019 and 8 March 2020.

Several local ringed birds around last night plus one with a yellow ring which is from The Netherlands.

On Tidal Pool last night. Spotted by Ian Foster. One of eight Sandwich Terns which included two juveniles and another metal ringed adult too distant to read.

The bird was distant and details difficult to read. The ringer confirmed identification as yellow HH7.

At 8.00 pm in evening high tide roost. Roosting on Seaton Snook with with around 40 other Curlew and several hundred Terns, mostly Sandwich plus Oystercatcher

It was first ringed and colour-ringed on 3rd August 2019 on Seal Sands.  This female, on bill length, has previously be reported from coastal fields near Marske on 17th December 2019, and at Redcar Rocks on 28th December 2019 and 2nd July 2020.

Around 40 Sandwich Terns present. Several with metal rings but this was the only one with a colour ring.

Colour ringed blue N14 - a real old one ringed 08/06/1993 at Zeebrugge, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

108 sightings to date since it was ringed mostly in Belgium, Germany and Netherlands though one other UK sighting at Orfordness, Suffolk.

27 yrs old. Longevity record is 30 yrs 9 months.

Around 20 Dunlin present as the tide dropped this morning. Two of them had metal rings and another was colour ringed. Orange ring left tibia and yellow coded ring on right tibia with black lettering similar to N1C. Metal ring on right tarsus.

It's from a scheme at Dyfi, Wales.

Seen from distance and fuzzy photo taken and sent off to ringer. Scheme is correct and hopefully they'll ID it from photos.

YELLOW NL0, was ringed (BY06618) as a juvenile on 18th September 2020 at Ynyslas National Nature Reserve near Aberystwyth, Wales. This is the first report of this individual since ringing and it is very interesting that appears to be moving in the opposite direction to what might be expected.

Purple sandpiper with pale green leg ring "EJT" spotted at Hartlepool Headland on the afternoon of 14th November.  Have to admit, I'm not sure how to go about submitting records of ringed birds (advice welcome).
