Just got my copy of this new book today and it is absolutely fantastic. Get your copy now, it must be the best value book ever, it is massive and packed with information, even up to 2011. Glad the birding is quiet at the moment as there is a lot to read.
Congratulations to all involved!!

Thanks for the constructive comments Richard.

Anyone who is interested in having a look at the book before buying (hopefully once you've looked at it you will want one yourself) can do so by calling in at The Phil Stead hide on Saturday 30 June 2012 between 12-2pm when I shall be available to show, take orders or sell copies of the book. Don't worry if you can't make it then as John Fletcher has kindly agreed to assist with sales and he will be there again (same time and same place) on Saturday 7 July. John will also retain a stock of books for sale to TBC members (and anyone else who wants one) at future TBC events/meetings.

Remember that TBC members are entitled to a £5 discount on the already very reasonable cover price of just £30 so you can get a copy for just £25.

Hope to see some of you there

I would like to echo Richard's comments.

'The Birds of Durham' is a massive ahievement and it is nothing short of a masterpiece.  The content, formatting, illustrations and photographs are first class and the book will appeal to everyone, whether a beginner or an experienced amateur.  Having been involved in the production of 'The Breeding Birds of Cleveland' I am aware of how much work goes into producing a book of this nature and it is to the credit of all those involved in the Durham Bird Club for their dedication, persistence and expertise, which have resulted in such a superb milestone in the history of Durham's birds.  I will read my copy with great interest.

Thanks very much for your kind comments Ted. I am sure all those involved in the publication appreciate them. It was a mammoth task of work and one upon which a small core of people went over and above the call of duty to ensure it is the publication you see before you. They know who they are and can take immense pride in the achievement.

I suspect we will probably have to look to the new and upcoming generation of local birders to update in the future, although hopefully we will not have to wait 60 years.
