Just an update on where we all are.
I have established who the best contacts are to be approached at the 2 sites under consideration, and the chairman will be writing formally to them in the near future, seeking permission.

Hi,
Just noticed one of today's sightings refers to a feeding station at Coatham Stob. Is this related to TBC and where is its location at the site?

Many Thanks,
Adam

Not sure if it's a good or bad idea dragging this up (apologies if it's bad) as we already have a feeding station set up at Coatham but was Tilery Wood considered? Having read Ian's reports recently and was there with my old man this morning, it has incredible potential. How many places locally can we get Marsh and Willow Tit together? Do Crossbills use feeders (we know Two-barred's that visit our neighbours in Yorkshire do)? Even if they don't they are still in the area and with all the Siskin's there, I'm assuming Redpolls frequent the area too? Outside chance of Brambling as well? We could look into having it off the beaten track to avoid pinching/vandalism (round the back of the Forestry hut for instance). I know Ian mentioned he feeds up and the bird tables had some food on but do Siskins, Redpolls and the woddpeckers use that?

Just wondering if it's worth a thought.

As far as I'm aware Common Crossbill don't usually come to feeders.

Siskin, Brambling, Woodpecker, Treecreeper all come to peanuts and fat balls - likewise with the various tit species plus Bullfinch - in fact I've seen all of them coming to the tables in the car park. Members of the public used to regularly put out food on the tables by the car park though not so much this winter.

Redpoll certainly come to feeders though I've never seen them in the middle of the wood, only along the margins.

One issue might be that much of Tilery Wood is in County Durham, rather than within the 'Cleveland' recording area used by TBC.

Tilery Wood is on the border of our area and would make a good feeding station but if TBC are to run one we need someone who lives near and can go on a regular basis to keep it stocked, at Coatham Stob, Colin, Mick and Sylvia live close by and can do this. If someone can do this at Tilery Wood I will take it to committee for approval. In the meantime do as I do and take some bird food, put it on the tables and go for a walk, by the time you get back birds will be at the tables.
