What do others think about the lack of RSPB reserves in North East England except the county of Cleveland as in Northumberland, County Durham and Tyne and Wear there is only Coquet Island as an RSPB reserve and although a very important reserve no landings are allowed by the RSPB. In fact before Saltholme became an RSPB reserve there was only Coquet Island that was an RSPB reserve in North East England. I do know that negotiations where going on for the possibility of 2 new RSPB reserves in at least 1 of the other 3 North East county's but sadly negotiations failed. I won't say how I know, but if anyone wants to asked me by sending me a PM I will tell them how I know. I've been waiting, as an RSPB Life Member since the early 1970's for some RSPB reserves in the Newcastle Upon Tyne and Gateshead areas that you could actually visit and now I'm really giving up hope of there ever been any new RSPB reserves been acquired near to where I live in my lifetime and I am a member of the Newcastle Upon Tyne RSPB Group. So I do get out birdwatching.

Hi Ian I do agree. I live in Bishop Auckland, County Durham and have noticed we need more RSPB reserves. I normally go to a place called Low Barns which is run by Durham wildlife trust great spot. Or I have a local place which I visit and is farmland and wetland and is called the Gaunless Flatt's but not RSPB reserves. :)
