Marsh Harrier catching a Moorhen - RSPB Saltholme

At Phil Stead Hide this afternoon.

It was hovering in front of the depth marker post when I entered the hide. Apparently earlier it had been sat in the reeds on the edge of the pool. It caught the Moorhen just in front of the depth marker post but couldn't hold onto it's prey as the Moorhen fought back and broke free. It flew off towards the Wildlife Watchpoint but returned a few minutes later once again hovering over the Moorhen before grabbing hold and carrying it into the reeds behind the marker post where it offered brief glimpses as it fed. It hadn't reappeared before I left.
