Green woodpecker sighting

Hi all, I am not sure how rare/unusual it is to see green woodpeckers in our area, however, I've never seen one in this area, only down south so I thought I would mention it. I have observed it on the land behind Wynyard Avenue, near to the coniferous forest area. The woodpecker was calling and flying, landed in the trees. I am 100% certain on the species Unfortunately I did not get a photograph of it

They are around but not in great numbers. Count yourself lucky that you saw one.

I had one at Cowpen Bewley Woodland Park last week but only to hear and not see. The used to breed there many years ago. Now they seem to just pass through.

Previous years I've seen them at Tilery Wood and at Wynyard Woodland Park.

Hopefully it will stick around and you'll see it again.
