Hi simonduck,

I've been to Lerwick a fair few times. In summer its like watching a wildlife documentary. The shore lines are abuntant with seals and many types of water borne birds.
I've been to Lewis and the Isle of Barra. Though in winter times, so cannot comment on the wild life there. Shetlands in perpetual daylight in late June early July, another sight to behold.

You'll have a ball up there.

the Hebridies are much better in early June..............for me it would the Shetlands.

Having taken guests there the timing for a good trip is critical and your timing would lead me to the Shetlands....hope this helps

Try and get a day on Handa Island (near Scourie) on the way up
