Title: Water Pipits
Post by: AKinghorn on December 03, 2010, 11:34:45 AM
Do the Water Pipits come back to winter at Haverton Hole each year? Or is it only some years in which they come back to winter there?

Does anyone know anywhere yet this winter where any Water Pipits are?

Thanks in advance

Water Pipits appear, in varying numbers, every year and I guess they are around already, though I've not actually looked.  The main site in recent years has been the flooded areas to the north of the pipeline which leads out east from the Cowpen Bewley Road towards Haverton Hole.  A walk along here will usually score.  I always leave it 'til 1st Jan.... excuse to walk the hangover off :)

The only place I have seen them so far this winter is along the Long Drag (up to 5) but seemed to be frequenting the Brinefields area. Last winter they were on the Brinefields opposite Holme Fleet early in the winter also. I guess at the moment anywhere ice free would be a good bet.
Cheers
Richard
