Title: Doug Cowton
Post by: chris sharp on December 07, 2010, 09:45:58 PM
The club learnt yesterday that Doug had sadly died whilst on a birdwatching holiday to Gambia with his brother Keith. Doug was a long standing member of the club and was a regular visitor to South Gare. He always had time for others and will be sadly missed.

I am very sad to hear this news - my greatest sympathy Keith. The two of you were always a pleasure to bump into on South Gare and elsewhere.
Best wishes

I, too, was greatly shocked and saddened to hear of Doug's passing and fully intended to go to his funeral and pay my respects had it not been for a terrible snowstorm over Nunthorpe, Guisborough and East Cleveland, which ground the traffic to a halt.

I know Doug will be greatly missed by all who knew him, particularly his fellow birders at South Gare, where he was a 'regular'.  Keith has lost not only a brother but a birding companion and friend with whom he shared many experiences at home and abroad over the years.

Don and I will miss our friendly banter about the size of our respective sandwiches and drooling over your oversized cream cakes, which Doug took great pains to enjoy!

I extend all my sympathies to you, Keith, at this very sad time, and will remember Doug with great affection.

Best wishes,

Ted
