The RSPB have been in touch with Martin Garner about doing a gull workshop at the reserve. A day's session with half the time spent in the centre looking at moult, ageing and the like and the other half out in the field. It would be mainly for Yellow-legged and Caspian Gulls but I am sure others would be thrown in. The cost would be about £25 and there would be only ten spaces. If anyone would be keen to attend please let me know at chrisandlucia@ntlworld.com.
Hopefully more workshops might be arranged in the future covering the likes of wader and seabird identification.
The date for the Gull Workshop has been fixed for Wednesday 30th November. The cost is £35 per person and is limited to only 10 people.
Bookings should be made directly to Martin Garner via his website at http://birdingfrontiers.com/gull-masterclass-day/
Full details of the day are outlined here. The workshop represents excellent value for money and places will be strictly on a first come/first served basis.
With the success of the gull day in late November RSPB are looking to run some more in the new year. Some dates have been pencilled in for 2012. These are Wednesday 18th and Saturday 21st January and Wednesday 7th and Saturday 10th March. A review of the November day can be found at http://birdingfrontiers.com/2011/12/04/teesside-caspian-gull-party/
All enquiries about the proposed days should go to Martin Garner's website and hopefully he can work out which days are more practical than others.
If you still need Caspian Gull this could be the day for you!
