Title: Myxomatosis
Post by: Keith Ryan on August 29, 2011, 01:08:21 PM
I picked a blind young rabbit up from the road near Haverton Hill this morning and took it to the vet. There's no charge and it puts them out of their misery, please don't just ignore them when you see them like that, it dosen't take much effort.

So prolong its agony ..... why not just pick it up and snap its neck and leave for the foxes... WIMP

You're right, breaking the animals neck is usually the best thing and in spite of being a wimp that's what I generally do, an ex-poacher friend showed me how to do it years ago, the reason I took it to the vet is because there was one just a few minutes away and it seemed the better alternative. The reason for the post was because I know a lot of our club members very well and I also know a lot of them would baulk at the idea of snapping a rabbits neck, there's a lot of us wimps about you know. If they knew they could take it to a vet free of charge it might tempt them to do it and help the unfortunate animal. I hope this response is adequate for your macho egotism.

myxie is spread by fleas. taking it to a public vet is stupid ???  it could infect pet rabbits in the building   or people taking there beloved bugs along to the vet for whatever reason :o:( you shoulda just necked it ;) if not just leave em :( let nature take it's coarse ;)

Funny that, I've spoken to several vets and they've all said to bring the rabbits in to their surgeries, but then again, what do they know?
