From Jan till April the Northumbrian Mammal Society is running a competition with prizes from records of mammals, amphibia and reptiles in our area. [ one point for a mammal; two for an amphibian ; five for a reptile ]. Only one record for any particular species is allowed per 1 km square - meaning 2 rabbits 100m apart but in the same 1km square, still only score 1 point. Prizes include copies of the " Mammals, amphibia & reptiles of the N E of England".
Records to include species, date, site and grid reference, and sent to katherine.pinnock@twmuseums.org.uk
Just to add to Alistair's post, the mammal, amphibian and reptile records can be from anywhere in the North East.
We are running a second competition at the same time called biodiversity bingo. What we have done is listed all of the blank 10km squares were we don't have a record of a particular species. You get a point for each blank you fill in.
Rules, entry forms etc for both can be found at http://www.nhsn.ncl.ac.uk/news/cms/mammalrace2/
