Seeking Volunteers

Hello all
I have received this request for volunteers from the European Marine Site Officer, if anyone is able to help would you please contact Maeve Lee

Hi Dave,

I hope you are well. I am here to pester you again!

Last winter 2011/2012 members of the EMS group undertook bird disturbance surveys within the EMS. These surveys were carried out to gather more details on the type of activities taking place along the coast and if these are having an impact on the bird populations. Defra reported in 2010 that water birds (especially overwintering) on the Tees EMS are at risk from been unnecessarily disturbed by recreational activities and so this sparked surveys been done to establish if this is the case and how can we best manage them. To up our game this year we are looking to recruit some volunteers to help out with the surveys to allow us to gather even more data to give us a better picture of what's happening on our coast. I wonder if this would be of interest to any of the members of the bird club? I've attached a document that explains things a little better and if you think members would be interested would you be so kind as to circulate it to them please? Also if you know of others outside the bird club that may be interested please circulate to them also. The only requirements we have are that the surveyors have access to a pair of decent binoculars and that they have a fair level of bird i.d. and of course don't mind sitting outside during winter!

Many thanks!

Maeve.
