Hi Tim,

I guess it's how you regard them and how you read the forum description - 'Photos of Rare Birds in Cleveland'.

Merlins nationally aren't rare birds. We don't see that many locally through the summer as they move to the Moors and Dales to breed, but they're a regular sight each year in this area, albeit not in high numbers. Around the Tees Marshes alone we get at least 2-3 every winter plus they appear in other areas as well so they're a regular sight each year.

I sometimes have the same concerns as to the correct forum. If in doubt I just use the search facility to get an idea where a species has been posted previously, though there's a couple of species that have been posted in both forums.

It's always best to post photos in the correct forum but it's not a big deal as they can always be moved later if need be.
