was walking in the scrub land behind the dunes today and heard what sounded like a grasshopper warbler,any ideas what it could have been ??

Its too early for an actual grasshopper so ruling out the impossible you may be right

The earliest date for Cleveland Grasshopper Warbler is 9th April. With the present weather it's unlikely to be earlier than that.

Wrens often let out a loud trilling alarm call. I would guess it to be this.
