Title: Moth identification
Post by: colin king on July 25, 2013, 06:57:48 PM
While looking for dark green fritillaries at South Gare today I saw what I took to be a bee hawk moth. It had clear wings but didn't notice whether it had broad or narrow bands. No photo. Which is more likely and are they unusual. I did see and photographed the fritillaries.

I dont think either have ever been recorded within 30 miles of South Gare and in the whole of Yorkshire only about 2 have been seen in the last 20 years so it would be a very unlikely record.

Have you checked much commoner options like Bee Fly?
