Title: Doubtful about Gull
Post by: Derickp on August 27, 2013, 01:45:53 PM
I thought it was a juvenile Herring Gull but would like someone to confirm or tell us otherwise. Showed considerable amounts of dark underside plumage.

Forgive my understanding, but it is far from winter. Would it be in winter plumage yesterday when I took the photo?

I've seen plenty of Black-Headed Gulls in winter plumage already as Gulls often attain their winter plumage in early autumn but the moult times vary according to the individual so some will get it earlier/later than the rest.

Thanks for the further confirmation. I have seen early plumage changes on the B H gulls but did not consider it in this event with this gull, and the very dark colour missled me too. Gulls and Warblers give me headache. Once again Than you.
