Sadly Ted passed away this afternoon. As most people were aware Ted has been battling illness for a long time. Even during this period he continued to work on the club's behalf, commenting on planning applications and even inputting old bird records onto a database whilst in hospital. During Ted's chairmanship the club went from strength to strength with his enthusiasm rubbing off on many others. Membership rose significantly during this time. His legacy at TBC will continue on.
Ted was an integral part of the birding community at Teesmouth. His generosity was enormous and most of us have enjoyed a cup of tea or coffee with him and Don courtesy of their seemingly bottomless flasks.
The numerous "tweets" posted today show the affection in which he was held.
I for one will miss him greatly and am sure that birding on Teesmouth will be the poorer for his passing.
I have lost a friend, Teesside a great birder and the world a gentleman.
Such sad news, I will miss him greatly, always at the end of the phone to give advice. A great gentleman.
Ted's funeral will take place on Friday 11th October at Middlesbrough crematorium at 10.30 a.m. Family and friends are then invited to the Treebridge Hotel afterwards to celebrate Ted's life.
