Title: Greatham creek footpath
Post by: lukeh on February 17, 2014, 07:36:34 PM
Can anyone advise if the Greatham creek footpath is open. We are planning a trip tomorrow and keen to see the divers/velvet scoter. Also, does anyone know where/when the best place to view them is? Thanks, Luke :)

The path down the south side to the Seal Sands Hide is still closed. However if you park on Seal Sands Road you can still get to the hide by walking the length of The Long Drag.

The majority of people though are parking in the Greatham Creek car park, crossing the road bridge and walking down the Greenabella Marsh side of the Creek. You can view Seals Sands from there. The Divers can be seen from just about anywhere along the  sea wall. The Velvet Scoter and Whimbrel are generally right along at the north end by Able UK.

It's a little shorter walk if you park north of Tioxide and walk in from that end of the marsh. You can park in the area around the sub-station or even in the visitors car park of Tioxide as long as you check with the gatehouse that it's okay to do so.
