I'm thinking of booking a family holiday in the Algarve in summer. Not really a birding trip but will definitely spend some time exploring the area and seeing what's around. Does anyone have advice on which areas / resorts to consider (or avoid)?
Hi Paul
Have a look at these sites, the first can arrange day tips for birding the other is free book on Algarve Birdwatching sites with maps and info. They also have a guide to trails.

Hi Paul,
I spent a week on the Algarve in September 2014and I arranged a day with Georg Schreier who can be contacted at Georg@birdwatching-algarve.com,or to see his website - www.birdwatching-algarve.com. My son had a day with Georg in 2010 which was very successful birding-wise.
I had a great day and could let you have a report of that day and my son's list from 2010 if you let me have your contact details.

I've had 4 holidays to the Algarve. A guide to birdwatching in the Algarve can be purchased from the Tourist Information in the old town of Albufeira ( I have one ) A hop on/ hop off tourist bus travels around Albufeira visiting a nature reserve where you can stay as long as you wish.
Alvor has a coastline, river and estuary and a nature reserve which you can explore from miles of boardwalks.
Thanks all, some very helpful advice and links here.
