Title: Greatham Creek / E A enhancement of coastal defenses / Birding implications
Post by: A McLee on June 14, 2016, 08:54:20 AM
The E A has submitted to Stockton Planning the anticipated further improvements to the sea wall on the S side of the creek, E of the road bridge. Clearly the need is there after the breach of a couple of years ago, and the club has no objections to that. A small amount of the saline pools will be lost, but this area will be compensated for by additions to the tidal area elsewhere on the site. However the plans show no provision that the present pathway, running parallel to the creek will be re-instated to the east along the new and more elevated crest of the defenses. If this is not done, the views over the wetland, particularly that closest to the creek defenses will not be visible from the present path. This issue will be formally raised by the conservation committee with Stockton Planning, but to have a greater influence, individual letters from members are vital too.
For further details Google " Stockton Planning Portal", reference the planning number 16/1461/EIS and act before 4th of July. The club's response will shortly be posted and you might wish to use it as a model. Actual letters can be sent by mail as well.
