Title: South Gare
Post by: Richard Green on April 07, 2017, 01:51:17 PM
Hi all For the interest of members and users of South Gare I have written to PD PORTS requesting some action  as below:

Hi Kirsten,

I am writing to you regarding South Gare as PD PORTS is a major stakeholder.

Following a visit to South Gare during 2012/13 I was disgusted at the amount of rubbish at South Gare so contacted PD Ports who duly provided resources and organised a litter pick to which I attended.
Since that time I have volunteered on another 2 Litter picks with FRED (Friends of Redcar) In a couple of hours each time we collected and removed a tonne of rubbish on each occasion, but unfortunately, despite this much rubbish remains and continues to worsen.
Therefore, I politely request your involvement for two reasons. 1) To clear up the remaining mess and 2) Develop a forward plan to help prevent reoccurring incidents of fly tipping and littering.

I must also highlight that South Gare has SSSI status (Site of Special Scientific Interest) for its fauna and flora so therefore warrants ongoing care and maintenance to protect this status into the future.

Please respond at your earliest convenience.

Kind Regards

Richard Green

Thank you Keith I hope the situation at South Gare can be hugely improved but although we have made a difference in the past with our organised cleanups its little more than sticking plaster over a leak.
Something there must change otherwise it'll be more of the same which is wholly unacceptable for such a special place.

Hi all just to let members know that following a lack of interest/cooperation from PD Ports we (Friends Of Redcar) litter picked South Gare this morning.
2 Council pickups were filled totalling 1.2 tonnes.

Hi Richard

Well done for all your efforts.

You should have posted something on here before the clean up. I am sure you would have had several members volunteering to help

Thanks Chris,

Many will have noticed the resurfaced South Gare approach road, also I am aware that exploratory talks have take place to make South Gare an improved visitor attraction.
In my opinion there is good and bad about both these things.

Teessmouth Bird Club should and needs to be part of future consultations.
I would recommend PD Ports as being the first point of contact and info.

Further to this thread, here is a link to Anna Turley MP regarding the future of South Gare within the South Tees development draft masterplan.
This includes a comment box for people to make express their views.

I hope members make use of every platform available to express concern that when change occurs at South Gare it is carried out with the upmost sensitivity with Conservation as a priority and not as a side show for Tourists.
