Title: Green Lane Redcar
Post by: Richard Green on November 04, 2017, 11:24:28 AM
For info:

I was recently upset and angry on finding "berry laden Hawtorns" lining Green Lane Butchered and completely
Hacked. I have written to our Council and attended a resident meeting so they are well aware of the issue.
I understand that this handiwork/vandalism was carried out by the Farmer so today I have written to the landowner Lord Zetland asking for a future working relationship preventing such from re-occurring in the future.

Hi all,

Update.

I have had responses from both Redcar Council and Lord Zetland regarding the recent Butchery of mature Hawthorns on Redcar Green Lane.
Lord Zetland seemed very sympathetic to the plight of the birds mentioned in my email,
Both parties have actioned someone to contact me in the near future.

I ride through there quite often on my bike from Saltburn to Redcar and found the mature hawthorn that have been there for 50 years of my life they were no more than stumps. I hope this dose not happen again and they back in all there glory in a few years. well done for your concern and action.

Thanks for your response john.
I have had communication from Lord Zetland's land agent on behalf of Carter Jonas. He cited how the Tenant Farmer was in compliance of Stewardship directives etc although given the severity of hedge hacking some people would call it Bullshit.
I have also met with Redcar & Cleveland Ranger who was sympathetic and fully agreed with me but unfortunately nothing can restore the hedgerow to how it was.

UPDATE

Wrote to the land agent once again highlighting the importance of mature hawthorns to wild birds (Suprisingly no reply)
Also another litter pick has taken place, 7 small bird nest boxes constructed and erected plus another 4 within the territory of Redcar Athletic FC.
