Title: Unidentified bird being fed
Post by: Derickp on August 23, 2018, 06:26:24 PM
At Skinningrove and scanning with binoculars I saw a Stonechat well in the distance feeding some bird. I could not fathom out what the bird was being fed as it was considerably larger than the Stonechat but certainly not Cuckoo size. Large gaping mouth just the same but???? In the photo it is about 2 foot 6 inch behind the stonechat but looks closer because of the zoom compression, which helps to appreciate the size of it. It was hidden in the slag pockets and when I got within about 30 yards it had retreated into the slag so that I could not find it. I waited a while but with no results. Quality poor

I think it's probably feeding a juvenile Stonechat. They are streaked and spotty and brown looking. Juveniles sometimes are bigger than their parents until they develop more.
