Title: Green Wodpecker x 2
Post by: Derickp on July 17, 2019, 04:09:22 PM
Saw these Green Woodpeckers a few times in last fourtnight and finally today managed to photograph them from about 70 yards near Lealholm. A male and a Juvenile  which eventually came back to the area where I was sat in the bushes after a very patient wait.

Lovely pics Derick. I envy you, Green Woodpeckers have been on my bucket list for a long time now. I have seen a few but never close enough to photograph.

Hi Ian, They were on my Bucket list for a long time (some years in fact). I have seen many and know the haunts of many but are never able to be close enough to get some decent photos. Have a few distant ones but that's it. 2 Weeks ago however Neil and I were over that area again and we saw them at a distance in that same area. So I set out a week later and had mostly Green/Kaki colour clothes/hat on and I sat in the bushes about 70 to 100 yards from where they have been in the past. It was a matter of being patient and hoping. Sure enough they came back and didn't spot me. I can't say how pleased I was to get them that close. Hence the photos.

Neil, sorry you had to be away at the time but we will go again soon and hopefully find them once more.
