Firstly, I should introduce myself. I am Nick Gibbons and I have recently taken over from Graham Oliver as the BTO Regional Rep for Yorkshire Northeast. I used to live in Norfolk close to the BTO and have been volunteering with them for some years both on the BBS and various other surveys such as Woodlark, Nightjar and Willow tits.
Looking at the 'available' squares for the BBS of my new area it is noticeable that there are lot in the north-west section (see below). This is where we have very few people living within my BTO boundary, but with a large population to the north. As such I would like to make contact with anyone who may be interested in 'defecting' across this artificial boundary and undertaking a BBS square in the York NE patch.
I am sure most of you are aware that it does not involve a massive amount of work and contributes enormously to our understanding of ongoing bird populations and feeds directly into the national biodiversity indicators. I believe there are also so nice sites up there, just a long way from home for my population centre.
I look forward to hearing from at nicholas.gibbons123@btinternet.com or 07790 113025. I do have a Twitter account but struggle with it, but as a last resort - @BTO_YorkNE.
Thank you to the Teeside Birders and especially for Mark Askew for help in getting this far.
