Thanks all, some very helpful advice and links here.

I'm thinking of booking a family holiday in the Algarve in summer. Not really a birding trip but will definitely spend some time exploring the area and seeing what's around. Does anyone have advice on which areas / resorts to consider (or avoid)?

It's a long shot I know but if anyone finds spectacles in a brown case please message me. They were lost today, either between Spion Kop and the Jewish cemetery, or between Saltholme car park and visitor centre.

This morning at about 11:30 (in broad daylight), I parked next to a car in the car park by Greatham Creek. While sorting out our binoculars and coats etc. my wife and I realised that in the back of the other car were a man and woman who had clearly gone there for purposes other than enjoying the wildlife! As other cars arrived, they decided it was not a good spot, got dressed and drove off. While there's a funny side to this, I'm pretty disgusted by this behaviour. It's this sort of thing that gets these car parks closed, which wouldn't be good for any of us.

I live in Billingham. It just appeared in our living room last night, near the fireplace. It's possible it came down the chimney.

Can anyone identify this moth please? It's about 15mm wingtip to wingtip as shown here.

Thanks for finding the solution - all working fine now.

I don't think it's an ISP problem. I'm with Virgin Media (was ntlworld.com) and I have the problem when using IE8, but I installed Firefox and the menus all work fine.

Same problem for me. Moving the cursor over the menus (Main, Sightings, Forum etc.) just pops up a white box with no text in. The size, shape and position are right but there's no content. I haven't changed any settings on my PC. I'll try to work out what the problem is and will post back here if I figure it out.
