Hi,

this used to always be a good area:-

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=473775&y=512136&z=115&sv=473775,512136&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=781&ax=473775&ay=512136&lm=0

They used to get them near the Lockwood Beck car park as well and I have seen them at Danby Beacon

Hi Jamie,

Thanks very much for that, I shall head over on a sunny day with my camera and see what I can find.

I'll report back.

Lyle

Hi Guys,

I hope you are all keeping well. I'm looking to photograph adders and wondered if any of you new of any locations where you have either seen them or maybe somewhere I can check?

Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / Has anyone seen an owl lately?
February 10, 2014, 04:09:06 PM
Hi everyone,

Please don't shoot me down or tell me to get off my a*** and look because I have.

I've been actively looking for Barn Owls for some time now, visiting any areas I can that have been mentioned on here or DurhamBC but have had rotten luck on every occasion. I'm very keen to see either a barn owl or SEO in the wild and would be very interested to hear from anyone who has a reliable area I could see one. I understand they don't come out much in the day but I know they do sometimes!

I've seen some great shots on here of barn owls at Greenabella and Long Newton (places I've both visited) but they seem to be some time ago and I'm wondering where they have all gone.

I look forward to your responses.

Jack

Hi Jamie,  I know a thing of two. I run one of the North East's biggest digital agencies. I was also a developer for many years and have done a few WordPress installations.

Good shot Chris, these things are very hard to shoot. I tried yesterday and failed miserably...

Great shot! I tried to get a good snap of these yesterday but it was very windy and they weren't sticking around. Any tips on where to position yourself and to spot these?

I wish I had a spare £4k lying around but sadly the mrs would leave me if I bought this. Good luck.

Hi Everyone,

Well I made a trip over to Greenabella today, sadly no owls but I saw a few things which I think I've ID'd properly. Not the greatest of image quality as I struggled to get close but still fun all the same:

Bean Goose

Shelduck (I think)

Teal (I think)

...and some nice seals with some lapwings (I think)

Do you need any kind of permit for that?

You got it! The marsh on the north side of the Creek is what is known as Greenabella Marsh for bird watching purposes. The south side has the path between the fences wooden leading down to Tidal Pools, Seal Sands Hide and the Long Drag.

Only permitted access is down the side of the Creek and along the sea wall/bund a couple of hundred metres as far as the wooden hide facing the marsh.

Many thanks IanF, not sure if the admins are about but it would be great to have these on the Site Guide pages.
