Common Birds / Tree creeper hopping
June 18, 2020, 09:32:41 PM
It is well known that tree creepers don't creep up trees. They hop. Both feet at the same time. I took the first two pics last year at Hutton Village which clearly shows the bird hopping up the tree. I took the third pic yesterday at Pinchinthorpe. The pic has not been altered or turned in any way. How come the tree creeper doesn't fall off?

Common Birds / Buzzards hunting

A couple of rather long distance encounters with local buzzards recently. One chasing a rabbit that made it safely down the hole and another with an adder which had no escape route

Common Birds / GSW and a Pine cone
February 06, 2020, 07:39:35 PM
Saw this great spotted woodpecker carrying something and settled in a dead tree. It had wedged a pine cone in to a crevice and was hammering on it to get at the seeds.

Identification Tips and Questions / Goshawk
February 01, 2020, 08:29:26 PM
Took this shot in October last year using Nikon P900 at full zoom. When viewed from back of camera I considered it a common buzzard and moved on. Much later, when sorting the dross on the computer from my camera down loads I looked a bit closer and it was obvious it wasn't a buzzard. If this is in fact a juvenile goshawk then I would consider it a significant record for Cleveland.
I would welcome any comments
This is the only pic I have

Watched a couple of jays near Hutton Village. They were searching for acorns and then taking them to a new location, hiding them in the grass then covering them up with leaves.

Found a great grey shrike when looking for red kites near Blubberhouses, North York's. The light was not good and continued deteriorating as the day wore on.
