Yeap I was going to say that too but kept my choice to UK resident birds as apose to passage or breeding migrants.    

Havent covered Castle Eden dene much since I moved to Hartlepool 8 years ago, I used to get Hawfinch around jacobs ladder in the dene. I spent a good 25 years birding the dene as I lived just on the outskirts in Peterlee. You might want to give that a go.

If we go for any birds in the world top 3 for me

Harpy eagle
Scops Owl
Belted kingfisher

Top 3 UK birds would be

Short Eared Owl
Water Rail
Great Creasted Grebe

For me its got to be the male bullfinch followed closely by the male stonechat, but they are lots of contenders out there.
