Hi

I currently use a Nikon 70-300 on a D3100 for bird photography and have some nice (albeit heavily cropped) pictures of short toed eagles and peregrines among other birds taken this year.

I was looking to buy a Nikon 300 prime to use with a teleconverter, but like most people in the current climate I've had to cut back on spending!

Is there anyone in the club with experience of the Sigma 120-400? I've read plenty of reviews but they seem mixed and very few written by birders. I'd be interested to hear if other club members think it would be a good buy. I'd probably buy new or nearly new, in the hope that any reliability problems have now been ironed out by Sigma.

Thanks in advance for any views/experience.

Simon

Hi Simon, i own the sigma 120-400 lens i use for taking birds its a heavy lens, which i nearly always use on a tripod. I got some good sharp images from it too. I wish though i had bought the 150 - 500 sigma maybe a couple of hundred quid more but worth it for the extra reach.
Check out these images of brians on this link http://www.ephotozine.com/user/brian65-101882 he uses the sigma 120- 400 and has took almost all his bird pictures with it hope this helps

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply and apologies for the delay - I'd forgotten about my original post! The pictures in the link you sent me look great, and very sharp.

Best wishes

Simon
