Sanderling on Coatham beach today.

Have you reported this bird to the BTO?

Looks like there are 2-3 schemes it could come from with having the green flag. Maybe Netherlands or Norway. I've not seen any colour ringed ones yet this Autumn though there were three large metal ringed Sanderling at Newburn Bridge this afternoon - plus ringed Redshank x2, Knot x1, Ringed Plover x2. Plus a few Oystercatchers with rings - can't read them of course.

As an aside it may be of interest to others as well that a colour ringed Little Stint was seen on Tidal Pool in September by two club members. The combination shows it's from Norway, probably Spitsbergen. They couldn't read the letter code. Two others from Norway were also recorded on the east coast well south of us.

A colour ringed Curlew was on the Headland this afternoon on the rocks below Albion Terrace.

I believe it's one of 46 ringed in July 2012 on Seal Sands.

A couple of other new ones have turned up on Seaton Common over the last week as well. All locally ringed - details to follow.

A Norwegian metal ringed Black-headed Gull has been in the pump station car park at Seaton Carew the last few days. I think Dave Harrison may have some of the details. It was there again today but only partially readable --5512--

 Sanderling Coatham.
Thanks Ian. Yes, now reported to BTO. I will post any information received.

Hi Ian,

The curlew is the same bird I saw at the Headland posted earlier in this thread. I've developed the photos now and reported to the BTO as suggested.

Cheers

Simon

Sanderling Coatham

I have had information from Jeroen Reneerkens of the IWSG about the colour ringed sanderling seen at Coatham on 10/10/12
The bird was ringed in Iceland on 22/05/11
It had previously been observed at Marske, 5 times between March and August this year.

A few results from the colour ringed Curlew that have been on Seaton Common over the last few weeks -

Further  information on their subsequent re-sightings to follow shortly.

Your re-sighting and photo confirmation of RW RW is particularly exciting as it was seen earlier this year at Nosterfield, North Yorkshire, having not been seen since it was originally ringed!

Where abouts on the BTO site do report ringed birds, I've scoured the site and have came up blank.

Want to report the Ringed Shag I photographed earlier this week.

Cheers Eddie
