Two more Sandwich Terns from Seaton Snook this morning. Both ringed Coquet Island.

QuoteWhite-UJP was ringed (DT36076) as a chick on Coquet Island on 17 July 2016; no previous sightings other than on Coquet, but it has been on Coquet island this year between 4-22 August- last seen on 22 August and as numbers now seem to be dwindling substantially, I guess it is on its way south. The big question now is whether it will take a coastal route, or travel overland from Teesside to the Mersey.

White-UHA was also ringed (DT21284) on Coquet Island, on 2 August 2015; also no previous sightings away from Coquet, but it has been on or near Coquet all summer, from 31 May until last seen on 17 August 2018.

Seen by Paddy's Pool at RSPB Saltholme with three others on 11th November 2018.

Apparently it was seen at Saltholme by another birder on 2nd November.

Ringed Spitsbergen, Norway 12/08/1998 - making it 20 yrs old.

Longevity record is 26 yrs 11 months 11 days. Typical lifespan is 14 yrs.

QuoteYellow ZB - first ringed by the Dutch as a male gosling at Ny Aalesund, Spitsbergen, Svalbad, Norway on 12/8/98 with a metal ring only.
Recaptured and colour ringed in 2015 at Nordenskioldkysten, Spitsbergen when it was recorded as a female by the Dutch ringer (sexing is far more difficult at gosling stage).
It has not been recorded on the Solway wintering grounds since (due to it being metal ring only bird up until 2015 when the yellow ZB was added). Even so it has evaded detection since 2015 so it is good to hear that this 20 year old bird is still going strong...

At least two with yellow darvics present this morning.

Two together initially on end of causeway out from 'triangle' with yellow rings but too distant to read even with scope.

An hour later they'd moved. However there was a flock of around 40 Barnacles in front of Petroplus. As they flew around and landed I took photos and caught one with a readable yellow darvic VT.

Speedy response to my enquiry -

QuoteVT was ringed 25/07/2015 in Nordenskioldkysten, Spitsbergen, Svalbard, Norway as an unsexed gosling.
