I had a walk around the South Gare this morning and was appalled at the amount of rubbish in the area, I picked up a carrier bag full of discarded fishing line which was the most dangerous stuff but obviously had to leave the beer cans, food containers, plastic bottles etc. etc. Obviously the idiots who dump this rubbish don't care but who, if anybody, is supposed to clean it up, it's disgusting, and dangerous to wildlife.

Keith,

I'd like to say well done for raising this issue and one might wonder whether our club should become more proactive in trying to address matters which undoubtedly affect the welfare of birds  inhabiting the Teessmouth area.

For my part I have rang Redcar and Cleveland Council and requested the area be cleaned of litter and other rubbish, we will see what happens if anything, but should nothing happen then I shall be asking why, because they have given me a reference number to this particular complaint.

It would be helpful if others members visiting South Gare monitor this problem and report as necessary.

UPDATE:

As perhaps suspected and following a swift reply from the council denying responsibility I have contacted one of the landowners (PD PORTS) and requested a one off clean up or even better introduce a periodic cleaning regime at South Gare. The complaint will be passed to their estate manager, I also asked PD to contact the other owner SSI.

Now awaiting further/next response.

Now that's what I call a positive response, thankyou Richard and well done.

For info:

Great effort today including myself and approximately 25 volunteers from various companies/organisations.
Loads of litter picked up at South Gare bagged and removed.

Most common litter being plastic bottles, drinks cans and pre packed dog shit.

So pleasant!!!

;)

Well done Richard, I can't for the life of me understand why so many dog-owners do that, what's the point?, they obviously don't understand degredation.

Perhaps out of the posterior and into posterity.  :)
