Mammal ID Please

Seen on the river at Glaisdale swimming in the middle of the river but by the time I got close enough it was darting into cover. it was about between 12 to 14 inch long looked all black, but that could be due to it being wet. a short distance away was a large dead fish possibly a salmon. or sea trout. I would like id for the mammal please
