Hello,

I'm looking for a bit of advice.

Does anyone know of any local starling roosts that are currently active. Please feel free to message me with any possible locations

Thank you

Bridie (age 14)

Jamie

The Haverton Hole one is currently active. The last 3 nights the RSPB have been holding walks for people to go and see it but the last one was last night.

Jamie, thats great info... any idea on how to get there, directions and is it open freely so you can go without a warden?

All info is welcome,
Bridie

Jamie

Yare probably best off viewing the Starlings from where Ian mentions on the sightings page as it avoids having to walk about a mile through a dodgy area.

There's a couple of places on the A1185 Seal Sands Road near the electricity substation where you can pull in safely. I've watched them from there a few times. Even at 4.15pm there were thousands already in flight but many more joined them from the tip. Half a dozen pylons were covered in birds and a lot were on the ploughed field below the pylons.

A lot of the Starlings move from the tip area to the pylons to rest before going to roost in the reed beds. You're further from the reed beds here but you get good views of them swirling around in large flocks.

I only had a long lens with me last night so the photos only show a tiny fraction of the number of birds.

Jamie, Ian,

Thank you for the replies.  Had a look down last night and ended up near the pools surrounded by freindly cows!!!. looking towards the power lines??.
I will try the position you suggested Ian as the views (better backgrounds) you got seem much better than where I was. Did get a nice cow picture though.

Thanks very much for replying

Bridie
