I am a little puzzled by this recent posting, which describes an escape arising from the breaking of its jesses ( both simultaneously ?). This is an unlikely event and it seems more likely that it escaped with its leash still attached to both jesses rendering it likely to a speedy, and usually fatal, entanglement in branches. ( I am assuming that the gos was not being flown at this time of the year and merely failed to return from a hunt?

However, what is more intriguing is the remark that the breaking of its jesses some how renders it unidentifiable. The law requires that all raptor species, ( with a couple of exceptions ), be registered and either microchipped or, if captive bred, be closed ringed by 15 -20 days of hatching.
Micochipping is obviously invisible and I cannot see how a broken or slipped jesse somehow detaches a closed ring from the leg.
All this rather begs the question was the bird legally registered? The owner on the licence will have the I D details and it would be useful to have these published to aid its return - hopefully alive.
