Breeding birds 2016

2016 was a good year for some of the scarcer breeding ducks. Pochards bred at Margrove Ponds for at least the second time and on Hemlington Lake for the first time, as far as I know. Shovelers, after being present for a few years, also bred at Margrove. A pair had ten ducklings on 26th May,but two young birds disappeared after the family was attacked by an aggressive Coot (is there any other sort?).
The Blue Tits in Arcadia Arden Centre were living dangerously with a nest in a power cable junction box. Presumably the electricity was switched off.
