Teesmouth Bird Club

For the last week or two we've had a male GSW on the nut feeder & on my apple tree, I'm assuming he's nesting in a nearby tree. He was an occassional visitor last year but this week its been hourly.

How long do people guess he'll be doing this for - I missed th cup final last night because this was more watchable - but I've got a PG Wodehouse book to get back to the library soon and I'll never get it finished at this rate!

I suspect the sudden  requent visits to my garden of a great spotted woodpecker for the first time for the 25 years that I've lived there is linked to him feeding young. Does anyone have a view on if or when these regular visits will end?

If he's still visiting the garden I think there's a decent chance that once the young have fledged you'll be seeing them as well.

The first time we saw them in our garden was last summer. We live about 1/4 mile from suitable habitat and about 3/4 mile from the nearest spot I know of that they nest. After fledging one of the adults used to appear with a youngster in tow. Mind you we only had them on and off for about ten days - never seen since.
