A couple of photos of the flooding of south side of Greenabella Marsh following the embankment being breached last night during the abnormally high tides.

Looks like the Swallows have lost the tin hut where they've nested for a couple of decades now. It was where the breach is.

Good to see they've got straight on with repairing the breach.

Viewed from Phil Stead Hide this morning. A Chinook helicopter was ferrying materials from the A178 road bridge to the breach.

I talked to a man from the environment agency yesterday.Because the breech in the wall is c200 yards from the main road, the lorries, diggers etc cannot reach it. They are therefore constructing a road to it. Hence the presence yesterday of c15 lorries carrying rubble etc back and forth. The hole in the wall is getting bigger with every high tide. The helicopter was dropping bags down to try and prevent the hole continuing to grow.
The cost of this must run into thousands. Shame they didn't get the flood alleviation scheme opened on the other side of the road last autumn. Might have prevented all this.

I was reading today that the road over the creek (A178) is going to be closed till 20th of December at the earliest.

Tees Road is now re-open until the 6/1/14

The road was open this morning. Still no access down that side of the Creek but Greeneballa side was just the same as usual. A couple of photos of the work so far.
