Teesmouth Bird Club

Just a heads up to those who don't know. There is a national influx of Painted Ladies, over a thousand an hour in some counties down South. Apparently it's coming in two waves. The first are very pale and ragged indivduals and the second are much fresher. We had a few whizz past us on the Reserve yesterday who were oviously part of the first wave. Just really a note to keep an eye out and would be interesting to hear of any counts on the coast. Also worth looking out for anything that may come accross with them and maybe a few migrant moths will be caught up in the movement. Will leave Jamie to inform us of that

so far the only migrant moths that seem to be turning up in any numbers are Diamond-back Moths. If you look in longish grass near the coast you should find some with a little luck or even inland. For pics see:-

As a jobbing gardener I get to see a lot of likely places for Painted Ladies, and I can certainly confirm they're all over the place around Marske!  The tattier ones, I think.  A few Diamond-back moths as well.

Lots around Dormans Pool this evening along the tracks and on the embankment. A few this moring at RSPB Saltholme.

Over a hundred on the Reserve at the moment, all in various condition. They can be seen all over the place but a really good spot to see them is along the row of thistles behind the big earth mound in the Meadow.
