Pics from Portugal

Simon Elliott

Hi Rob

Out of interest, where in the Formosa Park were these pictures taken?

I have family in the Algarve and have visited several times. Both birds in the photographs have been present at or near Quinta De Lago golf course - I normally leave the family on the beach and walk the route by the golf course down as far as the salt pans. The picture of the flamingoes looks like it may have been taken near the same path. I've seen glossy ibis on the golf course itself. My brother in law is friends with the father and son team that manage the park. On one holiday the son took me into the park and showed me a bird 'hospital' where they nurse raptors that have either been shot or otherwise got into difficulty flying over the area.

I've had loads of holidays in the area and the highlight is always the birds!

Best wishes

Hi Simon,
The pictures were taken near Quinto do Lago. The ibis from the second bird hide near to the car park and the flamingoes from the salt pans. Someone said a booted eagle may have set the flamingoes up. We also saw some purple swamp hens, hoopoes, black-winged stilts etc.
