Hi is it to early for the skeins of geese to start arriving ;whilst travelling back from Bolton last night saw a few skeins flying down the A1M

It's too early for return passage of geese such as Pink-footed, which normally come through in large numbers from mid to late September onwards.  I suspect the geese you saw were either feral Greylags or Canada Geese.   Two or 3 skeins of the latter fly over my house every morning as they fly from their roost to their feeding areas.

Hi Ted that's what I thought but best to ask on the Forum than declare sightings in the sightings page that's what the forums for.
