Hi,

last year we were told it would only be closed until about Christmas but as of last night the gates were still closed. Has anyone heard if they are going to open it again and when?

Ted Parker

Hi Jamie,

I've emailed Impetus several times and spoken to Nigel Flintoft of the company when attending a meeting recently with Air Products, their consultants and other nature conservation bodies. The original date for access was the second week of April (the contract operations were still running at Christmas) but this was put back due to outstanding work that needs to be finished off.  I will put an anouncement on the Website as soon as I have had a formal reply from Impetus and if I don't hear anything this week I will contact him again.

I hope this helps.

Ted

Jamie

Hi Ted,

thanks for the info. Hopefully they will let us on again soon

Jamie

Hi,

are there any more updates on this either way?

Regards,
Jamie

Most disappointingly the club still does not know. As Ted has stated earlier he has had no reply to his emails. At the start of July. I personally wrote to Nigel Flintoft of Impetus , asking the same question and at present I still await are reply. There exists an earlier verbal and written understanding that the club would regain access once the civil engineering works had been completed. In the absence of any firm evidence, it must be read that Impetus does not now want club members on site. One might wish to speculate that Impetus are cross with TBC because we, along with other local conservation groups, had raised objections to a development on the Rec pond land, proposed by Air Products - one of their "customers for the land".

I note from the local news that Stockton has just given planning permision for an Air Products plant to be built on a sector of the now flattened area of the Rec Pond. Very shortly one can expect heavy plant and machinery accessing the site on a regular basis and so we should all forget about future club access for birding although I presume the on-going WeBS counts will be unaffected.

Today, 23/09/11, I had a communication from Impetus which confirmed my earlier comments on this business. There will be further on-site drilling investigations and general general preparation activities. The bottom line for the moment is that the area is still out of bounds until further notice.

The Reclamation pond has been completely drained, filled in and levelled. I'm afraid the pond is gone forever.

I think you will find about a third of it is still there in the back left corner as you look from Dorman's Pool
