Snowy Owls in Hawaii whats going on?

After covering an incredible distance to get to Hawaii, they shot it!!!

Yes Keith very sad end to what must have been an extremely long arduous journey for this magnificent Owl 
The obvious question being whether the execution was necessary or whether it was just another case of Health and Safety gone bonkers and not for the first time, nor the last either.
