A colour ringed Oystercatcher first seen at Saltburn in November last year was again at Saltburn on Saturday 16th February 2013.
It has a White colour ring which should read P46, however the outer coating of the ring is starting to break down and only P4 is legible.
I did manage to read the metal ring and this is FH08473 and was rung as a pullus on the library roof of Aberdeen University (294km away) on the 19th June 2009.
This is the first sighting of it anywhere since been rung.

A colour ringed Curlew that I've not seen before was on Seaton Common this morning. OW WY.

It was ringed on Seal Sands in July 1997.

QuoteOW WY was ringed at Seal Sands on 21st July 1997 and aged as at least one year. It was last reported on 24th August 2006 at Seal Sands. Previous sightings to that show it was/is a regular wintering bird that can return as early as early July in some years, departing after mid February. All sightings show it to be a bird that often foraged on Seal Sands and Seaton Common.

A colour ringed Purple Sandpiper was on the beach on the Headland this morning in company with three other Purple Sandpipers. It has a green flag with EUH. It's turned up each winter for the each year since it was ringed 02/09/2011 at Svalbard / Spitzbergen.

It was also seen here by John Bridges on 17/02/2013.

This colour ringed curlew was on Hartlepool Headland. It had a yellow ring above a blue one on its left leg. What does this mean?

IanF

#103
The ring on it's left tarsus or 'ankle' looks to be white rather than blue. It's probably due to being in shadow that it looks a little blue. A large white ring on the left leg tarsus is the indicator ring for Curlew ringed on Seal Sands over the last 20-30 years.

Two rings are placed on each tibia. I can only see one yellow ring so it may have lost one or more. It maybe worth reporting to the BTO still though I suspect they won't be able to trace the year it was ringed. However yellow rings have a tendency to lose colour over the years. This being such a vibrant colour still I wouldn't be surprised if was ringed last year or at elast the last 2-3 years.
